Water is the enemy of electronics. Unfortunately, it is liquid spills that often invalidate warranties and rack up repair costs. While it is impossible to predict every situation in which a spill will occur, you should protect your electronic equipment as much as possible. In addition, the family should become involved in spill protection. More often than not it is the spills that we don’t see that causes the most problems.
A protective cover works wonders especially when you have kids bouncing around the house. It might feel a little weird typing on a plastic keyboard, it is worth the adjustment if it saves your laptop even once. Many cell phone accessories offer liquid protection but you have to be very careful between which ones you select. The definition of water resistance is very different than water proof. Ideally, you should pick up the water proof protection at the extra price. This is just in case the cell gets dropped in the toilet.
Another part of spill prevention is banning liquids near electronics. This step involves setting a rule and keeping on top of it. The temptation to have that cup of coffee, soda can, or glass of water handy is very great. But don’t let temptation override the expenses of a spill clean-up. Keeping liquids away from delicate equipment is an essential part of spill prevention.
Accidents happen frequently to electronics. Part of those accidents are due to a lack of vigilance. The cost of this type of repair is high. While prevention won’t stop all of the slips and spills that happen, it can prevent your equipment from sustaining major damage. It may take some adjustment in the feel of your equipment and the rules. But it is well worth it when you aren’t shelling out funds to pay for wet equipment.
